Poetry, Grades 7 - 9: Second Place

In the Water - Josh Crandell

 

 

as I dive into the cool water, I escape
from the ear piercing sounds of the outside world,
from the problems and tensions of my life

 

the water is my protection, my shelter, my shield
it pours its magic over me and time stands still
the moment is mine to think and dream

 

I feel peaceful and free
like a dove flying through the air
or a dolphin swimming through the sea

 

for the moment, everything is in balance
until I reluctantly push myself out of the water 
where real life challenges me again
